The Art of the Start
By:"Guy Kawasaki"
Published on 2004-09-09 by Penguin

E-book Library:"Business & Economics"

A new product, a new service, a new company, a new division, a new organization, a new anything—where there’s a will, here’s the way. It begins with a dream that just won’t quit, the once-in-a-lifetime thunderbolt of pure inspiration, the obsession, the world-beater, the killer app, the next big thing. Everyone who wants to make the world a better place becomes possessed by a grand idea. But what does it take to turn your idea into action? Whether you are an entrepreneur, intrapreneur, or not-for-profit crusader, there’s no shortage of advice available on issues such as writing a business plan, recruiting, raising capital, and branding. In fact, there are so many books, articles, and Web sites that many startups get bogged down to the point of paralysis. Or else they focus on the wrong priorities and go broke before they discover their mistakes. In The Art of the Start, Guy Kawasaki brings two decades of experience as one of business’s most original and irreverent strategists to offer the essential guide for anyone starting anything, from a multinational corporation to a church group. At Apple in the 1980s, he helped lead one of the great companies of the century, turning ordinary consumers into evangelists. As founder and CEO of Garage Technology Ventures, a venture capital firm, he has field-tested his ideas with dozens of newly hatched companies. And as the author of bestselling business books and articles, he has advised thousands of people who are making their startup dreams real. From raising money to hiring the right people, from defining your positioning to creating a brand, from creating buzz to buzzing the competition, from managing a board to fostering a community, this book will guide you through an adventure that’s more art than science—the art of the start.

Success- we crave it, work for it, dream it, want it as a personal achievement, but how we each define it differs. Power, influence, wealth, fame, or a position of authority--the hallmarks of success we strive for can just as easily become the cause of our destruction, if we don't have a clear set of boundaries by which to live. Corporate and religious scandals of recent years have caused unprecedented havoc and heartache in the world's economy and in the church world. Executive and spiritual arrogance causes a toxic atmosphere in too many organizations. There are safeguards and principles we must focus on to ensure balance with excellence in what we do. Core questions to be considered include: Should your fear Success? Why do so many fail when they attain success? Is failure considered a friend of foe? Do you have a balanced ego or a pre-occupation with self? Take a discerning look at the concept of success in a personal, professional, and spiritual context in Success Kills. Team development. How to assemble a successful team

Team development. How to assemble a successful team
By:"Irena Stotz"
Published on 2013-12-27 by GRIN Verlag

E-book Library:"Business & Economics"

Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,3, University of applied sciences Dortmund, language: English, abstract: Teamwork is the most important factor in achieving success in competition for companies. Teamwork should support companies to operate effectively and flexibly in the market. For employee’s teamwork is also important; in every job advertisement teamwork is required. And the higher an employee rises on the career ladder, the more important teamwork becomes. Previously, employees often work in departments, these days in many companies the employees work in project or task orientated teams. The task of today’s managers is to build a cohesive and successful team out of a group of individuals. This team has to work together for a specific time and afterwards they will have to work developing new projects. This assignment highlights successful teams and how they can be assembled and work together. This will be demonstrated in the second chapter using Belbin’s team role inventory. To begin with, the different team roles will be described and afterwards the differences between unsuccessful and winning teams will be discussed. After a successful team is assembled, they are paced through the stages of team development. The most famous model of team development is the five stages by Bruce W. Tuckman, which will be analyzed in the third chapter. Later, the phases of team development will be shown. The limits of this model will also be illustrated. The fourth chapter summarizes the development of this work.
